I used to play pro soccer in India. I was on the u17 national team, but I had surgery so I had to stop. I came to the US for flight school and I drive Uber on the side. I could have gone to Australia or New Zealand, but I waited to see if I could come to the US, only 50 out of 1000 Indians who apply for a visa can come. When I made it, I came to New York first it was tough, but Chicago is more diverse. A lot of the food we cook takes 1-2 hours to make, its nice to be here (Devon Ave), to get familiar foods with spices from home.
The hardest thing about being Muslim in the US is that the politicians and people on TV aren’t right about us. There’s a lot of fake news.
